First Communion

Owen celebrated his First Communion at church along with about 125 other second graders. Here's Owen and godfather Chris in the church. We gathered everyone (except Jonathan who couldn't be dragged away from his trains) for a group photo after the ceremony. "God Bless Owen" says the cake. (It was yummy, too.)

Life at home, on the field and at school

My garden is in full swing now althought it was a little sparse when just planted. I'll have to take another picture after it really gets going. We are excited about more green beans and tomatoes this year.

I'm so excited about my recent purchase of a Japanese Maple tree. It took seven years to grow this big so hopefully we'll be in the house long enough to see it grow really tall.

Michael brought his old childhood telescope out and the boys had a grand time. We got a little nervous that the neighbors would think we were spying on them, but Jonathan had a loved looking at the cars close up.

Baseball season is in full swing. Owen is well on his way to being starting pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. He is one of the starting pitchers for the Pilgrim Title team and although the coach won't let him use his sidearm pitch, he can still throw strike outs like nobody's business. Here he is before the game during a warm up stretch, and in action.

Owen's class put on a play about Francis Scott Key and Owen, due to his spot on British accent ability, was chosen for the lead. At the end, they all sang the Star Spangled Banner (although I don't think that was in character).

Cousin Elly

Cousin Elly came for a visit and we lucked out with such great weather. Bringing her usual bags of gifts, she knew she made a good choice with the rocket for Owen. She was ready to go in our baseball game and hit some great long balls in right field, or right ivy as it were. Jon was the game host calling the plays.

Uncle Greg gave instructions and the boys followed his every command. If only I could get them to do that.

Michael, of course, was in charge of the barbie.

And, hot off the camera: Memorial Day

At our annual town Memorial Day parade, Jonathan and I had roadside seats to watch the Minuteman band pass by. He was glad they didn't fire their guns right in front of us like they did last year. Here are all the kids watching the parade. Jonathan didn't want to be too close.

Here's the highlight of the parade! Michael and Owen marched with the Cub Scouts. Owen was excited to toss out candy from the bags as they walked along and they kids were sure excited to grab it. (Can you spot the flying lolipops?)

Although people don't like their waste on the lawn, I love Canada geese. Coming back to the house from the parade, we saw a lovely family walking along the bike path.

Later, we were invited to another house for a Welcome Summer BBQ. Owen loved the bounce house and ended up staying to play for about 4 hours more after we left! Here he is on the way down. Even Jon gave it a try although he was very excited about the snow cones.
